Wisdom Of Writers: The Letter

What’s the impact of a story on its own creator? I mean, we know that writing is a form of therapy, but that’s not all. Sometimes we don’t ever fully understand the whole impact.

Carlos Ruiz Zafón has an interesting approach of this. And I think he is so right!

Indeed we are almost writing a letter to ourselves almost every time we sit down at our desk in front of our computer or typewriter (yes, there are odd guys and gals that still like it, like the heroine of “Wednesday”. the fun Netflix series) Moreover, it is often an painful yet exhilarating exercise of exorcism of long suppressed memories of our lives, like we have been experiencing in our books and articles. There are even memories that we have not dared to share with our most intimate partners, family members and close friends. We will start following you, girl. Un grosso baccione.

  24. The quote is right on target. Many of my stories are fictionalized directly from my own past, and often when I read them back a a day or two later I see things in the original experience I had not seen before.

  26. Interesting idea…. But the discoveries that the author makes through the story to themselves are from his their own mind, imagination, or subconscious. So the personal discovery can be fictitious or real. If not real, then of course it’s an imaginary or pseudo discovery. As opposed to discoveries or things revealed to those who belong to the Lord and seek His wisdom. These discoveries or revelations far exceed that which originates from the people’s minds.
    “ Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3, CSB).

  27. A great quote and covers so much of our writing. Sometimes poetry is written for others, romantic poetry may be addressed to a particular person. Sometimes I write just for the purpose of seeing what the reaction will be from readers, giving different perspectives.

    “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength” (1 Corinthians 1:25).

  36. I just read the post on the “Wisdom of Writers” and I must say that I really enjoyed it. The letter excerpt that you shared was a great reminder of the importance of taking time to reflect and think about our lives and the choices we make. The advice to “never be too proud to ask for help” is especially poignant and something that we could all benefit from remembering. Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking piece.
